ICC Acclaims The Greatness Of Kapil Dev

International Cricket Council (ICC), on Tuesday, celebrated the success of former Indian skipper Kapil Dev. This month, ICC celebrated their great Hall of Famers and Kapil Dev is one of them. 1983 World Cup-winning captain, Kapil Dev, was added to the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame on March 11, 2020. ICC described Dev as one of the biggest game-changers in the history of the sport. He represented India between 1978 to 1994.

ICC Celebrated The Success Of Former Indian Skipper Kapil Dev. Kapil Dev made his Test debut against Pakistan in Faisalabad in October 1978. However, it was a debut to forget as the all-rounder scored only 8 runs and bagged only 1 wicket. He, then, went on to wear the Indian cap in 131 Test matches. He scored a total of 5248 runs in red-ball cricket which included 8 hunters and 27 fifties. Adding to that, Dev clinched 434 wickets in Test cricket at an economy of 2.78. Kapil Dev has two ten-wicket hauls to his name and nabbed the fifties a total of 23 times. He played his last Test match against New Zealand in 1994 in Hamilton.

Interestingly, Dev made his ODI debut also against Pakistan in the year 1978. He sent back Pakistani legend Imran Khan in his debut and scored an unbeaten 13 runs. Dev played a total of 225 ODI games for India and scored 3783 runs with a total of 253 wickets to his name. He amassed a century and 15 fifties for India in the white-ball format. He played his last ODI in Faridabad against West Indies in Faridabad. He also became the coach of India’s men’s team in 1999. He served as the head coach for a year.

Bishan Singh Bedi (2009), Sunil Gavaskar (2009) Anil Kumble (2015), Rahul Dravid (2018) and Sachin Tendulkar (2019) are among the other Indian cricketers to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.
