“I was always in the groove, it’s just that I wasn’t playing”- Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan made a solid comeback in international cricket in the recently played ODI series against England. Dhawan was dropped from India’s T20I playing XI, after a humbling knock in the first match. However, the Gabbar of Indian cricket opened for the “Men in Blue” in all three ODI games. Dhawan missed onto his century by a run in the first ODI as he was unlucky to lose his wicket when he was playing on 99. The southpaw scored a total of 169 runs in the ODI series at an average of 56.33. Dhawan scored two fifties and also grabbed the ‘Man of the Match award in the first outing.

Shikhar Dhawan, who has seemingly lost his spot in T20I cricket, was happy with his performance in the ODI series. Dhawan, while answering Ajit Agarkar’s question in the post-match interview, insisted that he was always on the grove and that he was just missing out on the games. Dhawan added that once he got the chance, he went on to make the most out of it. He stated that he oiled his batting skills while playing in Syed Mushtaq Ali and Vijay Hazare.

“I was always in the groove, it’s just that I wasn’t playing. Once I got the chance, I made the most of it. I was playing domestic cricket – Syed Mushtaq Ali and Vijay Hazare – and that was match practice for me. I’m glad I played those tournaments. The wicket was very good, especially the last two matches and I enjoy playing on such bouncy tracks,” said Dhawan after the 3rd ODI as quoted by DNA.

Dhawan will now join his Delhi Capitals squad ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League. IPL is scheduled to start on April 9th. Dhawan is expected to play a crucial role for his team in the absence of Shreyas Iyer.
