Have Seen People Eating From Garbage: Shahid Afridi

Celebrities Support Their Respective Government In Fight Against Coronavirus Pandemic:

Celebrities across the globe have come forward to financially support their respective governments in battling the deadly COVID-19, which has taken the world to a standstill. Recently, former Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Akhtar suggested a series between India and Pakistan – which he felt would help raise funds for the needy.

Former Indian skipper Kapil Dev, however, snubbed Akhtar’s idea saying that India did not need money, and a series would put cricketers’ lives at risk. Shahid Afridi, a compatriot of Akhtar and former Pakistani captain, has now slammed Kapil for his comment.

“Shoaib Akhtar said something good for humanity’s sake. I’m surprised at the response of Kapil Dev to him as I saw videos from India where people are taking food from the garbage and eating it. While I respect him, Kapil shouldn’t have said that,” said Afridi.

Shahid Afridi’s Remarks Came Soon After Kapil Dismissed Akhtar’s Idea:

The remarks from Afridi came soon after Kapil rejected the suggestion of an Indo-Pak series by Akhtar. Sharing his thoughts, Kapil felt it was a time when social distancing was the need for the hour, and it would be difficult to arrange such a series because it would also put cricketers’ lives at risk.

“India does not need money today, so such a series should not be held. And why put our cricketers” life in danger? So sit back and relax at home,” said Kapil.

“Why take the risk of putting even one life in danger? There is no need for anyone to give suggestions like that. The authorities are trying every effort to make people realize the value of staying at home. It’s easy to say things, but it is incredibly difficult to organize such an event”.

On the other hand, Akhtar said Kapil did not fully understand what he meant, because while India may not need money, others required it.

“I don’t think Kapil Bhai understood what I was trying to say. Everybody is going to be economically stuck. It’s time to bring our heads together and raise revenues. A match will attract the global audience. Kapil said he doesn’t need the money, and he definitely doesn’t. But everyone else does. I think this suggestion would soon be taken into consideration,” Akhtar told to media.

Because of political differences, the two neighbors have been at loggerheads for quite some time. India and Pakistan are now just locking horns in global events. The two teams last met on the cricket field in the 2019 ICC World Cup, where the Men in Blue continued their undefeated streak in World Cup matches against the Men in Green.
