The 15-man squad of India cricket team was released by the new 5-member selection panel for the upcoming ODI series against South Africa. Virat Kohli is going to lead the squad. The series will start on March 12 at Dharmasala.
Sunil Joshi, the new chief selector along with Harvinder Singh added to the 5 member selection panel, who selected the first team. Three sidelined players were brought back to the team after their injury break. Rohit Sharma will not be seen in this ODI as he picked up a calf injury during the T20 series in New Zealand.
Three players were not seen in past international matches due to their respective injuries and made comeback in the DY Patil T20 tournament last month. These players represented the Reliance 1 team in the Mumbai tournament where they seemed to be fit for the international comeback.
All-rounder Hardik Pandya was unavailable for cricket matches for the last five months as he underwent surgery in London for his acute lower back injury. He was last seen in T20 against South Africa. He proved his fitness in DY Patil tournament with 46,105, 38, 158 scores and 5 wicket haul in one match.
Opener Shikar Dhawan due to his shoulder injury didn’t appear in international matches since the ODI series against Australia. He missed the India tour of New Zealand. He was also back in action in the DY Patil tournament. Pacer Bhuvaneshwar Kumar also back after getting recovered from hernia surgery who was unavailable since the T20 series against West Indies.
Due to the return of the all-rounder, opener, and pacer, few players who played against New Zealand are excluded. With Bhuvaneshwar Kumar’s entry, Mohammed Shami and Shardul Thakur will be out of the field. With Rohit Sharma absent Prithvi Shaw most likely takes his place.
