Happy Birthday RP Singh – Former Indian Pacer

Rudra Pratap Singh, commonly knows as RP Singh, was born on 6th December 1985 in Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh. He is a former Indian left-arm fast-medium bowler, who announced his retirement in 2018 from all formats of cricket.

He played Under-19 World Cup in 2004 in Bangladesh where he took eight wickets at an average of 24.75. After that, he played in Ranji Trophy for UP. His impressive performances in that domestic tournament earned him a place in the 2005 ODI. He later swapped from UP to Gujarat.

In the third ODI match, Singh got his first man of the match award when he played his part to restrict Sri Lanka to 196. In that match, he took 4 crucial wickets. In 2006, he made his Test debut against Pakistan at Faisalabad and won the man of the match award in that game for picking up 6 wickets.

In 2007, he was selected to play in the ICC T-20I in South Africa where he was the 2nd highest wicket-picker of the whole competition by claiming 12 wickets in 7 matches at an average of 12.66. Singh’s best figures were 4/13 in 4 overs in one of the matches of that tournament.

Following this, he was selected for a home series against Australia and a series in Pakistan. He picked up a total of 11 wickets in both series combined. In 2011, he was re-called into the India squad for the England tour.

In the IPL, he was bought by Mumbai Indians for 4,28,38,500 in the 2012 auction. He became one of the leading wicket-takers with 52 wickets in the 2013 IPL. He played for RCB when they bought him for $400,00 in 2014. He remained unsold for the base price of Rs 1cr. After that, in 2016, RP Singh played a few matches for Raising Pune Supergiant’s team.
