Nicholas Pooran is a Trinidadian cricketer born on October 2, 1995. Now captains the West Indies squad in limited overs cricket and represents Trinidad and Tobago in regional games. In September 2016, he made his debut for the West Indies on a global stage. Pooran received the chance to lead the West Indies team in limited-overs cricket in May 2022.

The left-handed hitter was uncertain about his ability to walk again after a vehicle accident in 2015. His tenacity and hard work not only got him back on the field but also launched him to stardom.

Pooran, who has only played one year of international cricket, has already established himself as a key player for the West Indies in white-ball cricket, and his accomplishments are incredible.

Domestic Career

Pooran, a student from McBean, Couva, represented the college’s cricket team while attending Naparima College in San Fernando.

He was a left-handed wicketkeeper/batsman who represented Trinidad and Tobago in several youths and schoolboy events. At the 2012 regional tournament, he made his national under-19 debut at the age of 16.

However, Pooran made his West Indies under-19s debut in an exhibition match against Bangladesh under-19s in October 2013, and he later participated in the 2014 Under-19 World Cup.

He was the vice-captain of the squad and the main wicketkeeper. In six games, he scored 303 runs, placing him fourth overall in runs scored and in first place among West Indies averages.

T20 Career

He was purchased by the Mumbai Indians squad on February 2017 for INR 30 lakhs in preparation for the 2017 Indian Premier League, although he didn’t play a single game the entire year.

As a replacement for Ben Duckett, an Englishman, in the Islamabad United roster, Pooran participated in the 2017 Pakistan Super League for the team. Before the playoffs, he joined the team. He debuted vs the Karachi Kings.

The T20 Comeback

Despite having a base price of INR 50 lakhs, Pooran was not purchased during the 2018 IPL auction. Following the draught for the 2018–19 Bangladesh Premier League. He was selected to the Sylhet Sixers squad in October 2018. He scored 379 runs in eleven games, making him the team’s leading run-scorer for the competition.

At the player auction for the 2019 Indian Premier League, Kings XI Punjab paid 4.2 crores ($590,000) for him in December 2018. With a total of 353 runs scored in his 14 matches throughout the IPL 2020 season, Pooran had a fantastic campaign.

In the 2020 IPL season, he hit 25 sixes in total, which made him the fourth-highest six-hitter. However, in IPL 2021, he only managed to score 85 runs. Then Sunrisers Hyderabad purchased Pooran for 10.75 crores during the 2022 IPL Auction.
