Hanuma Vihari Is A Perfect Player To Replace Cheteshwar Pujara – Deep Dasgupta

Former India wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta has suggested the selectors to try Hanuma Vihari in place of Cheteswar Pujara for the number 3 position.

“India can try Hanuma Vihari at No. 3”- Deep Dasgupta

Pujara’s highest score in his last 7 innings is just 21 and he has scored 8 and 15 runs respectively in the World Test Championship Final loss against New Zealand and seemed to have some struggle with his form.

Deep Dasgupta feels that Hamunam Vihari, whose last Test knock was a heroic display in Sydney, could be given a chance at the no.3 spot. Vihari is more like a Pujara Kind of player and a solid batsman who can score runs quicker than him.

In a recent interview, Deep Dasgupta said – “India can try Hanuma Vihari at No. 3. In the long term, you can try him, you can also try Shubman (Gill). You can also think of KL (Rahul) but I would see him at No. 5. There are many openers and you can adjust to No. 3 if you can adjust to the mindset. Hanuma is a good option,”

Chahal Performance Wasnt Great In Test Cricket: Deep Dasgupta

Deep Dasgupta has also spoken about why leg-spinner Chahal isn’t part of the Test set-up. And the former player has bought Chahals numbers in the first-class cricket – 84 wickets at 33.21 which are pretty ordinary.

Deep Dasgupta has explained why the current wrist spinners have been successful in white-ball cricket but not in longer formats and said – “The problem is that whether Chahal wants to play Test cricket. If you see his Ranji Trophy numbers they aren’t that great and he also doesn’t play a lot. For India A, he was picked two years ago, but even there in New Zealand, his performance wasn’t that great.

“In white-ball cricket, your defensive skill set takes you through. But in red-ball cricket, your attacking skillset becomes more important. That’s why a lot of wrist spinners are successful in white-ball cricket than red-ball cricket,” – Deep Dasgupta said.
