The coronavirus pandemic greatly affected the games. Almost all sports programs have been postponed or canceled in the past month. The Indian Premier League (IPL) was also affected, which was set to take place from March 29 to May 24. However, because of the lockdown extension to May 3 in India, the window for the tournament has reduced entirely.
Although the BCCI is continuously monitoring the situation, there have been various speculations about the IPL. Meanwhile, soon after the BCCI officially confirmed that the IPL had postponed until further notice, social media was littered with trolls for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
Fans troll RCB for its poor performance in the league:
The Virat Kohli-led RCB has received trolls for his poor performance in the cash-rich league for the past few years. The team has two cricket superstars, the Indian captain, and AB de Villiers but could not display their actual potential. Instead, the RCB is too dependent on these players to win games for them every time.
Moreover, Kohli’s captaincy always comes under the radar and is also criticized for his choices. The last time in 2016, RCB came close to winning the title when their captain hit the purple patch. Kohli has scored four centuries and scored 970-odd runs, which is still a record. However, they failed to cross the final hurdle and lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
But since then, the team’s underwhelming performance has disappointed fans. RCB has not been in the playoffs for the last three years and has been consistent in the bottom two. The fans always hope to win the elusive title every year, and the slogan “E Sala Cup Namde’ (This year Cup is ours) went viral over the 2018 edition but ranked sixth on the points table.
Now, as the IPL 2020 has been postponed, the RCB franchise is getting trolls on social media. While some say they will be knocked out so far in the IPL, some have said that this is the best year for the RCB in the IPL as the competition has been postponed.
