Ben Stokes Receives Professional Cricketers Association’s Players’ – Player Of The Year Award

Ben Stokes, England’s all-rounder, was voted Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) player of the year on October 2nd. Here in this article, we have talked about Ben Stokes Receives the Player Of The Year Award.

Besides guiding England to a dramatic victory over Kiwis in the ICC World Cup final held in London in July, he scored a sensational unbeaten 135 to help his country win against Australia at Headingley in the third Ashes Test, keeping alive the hosts hopes of drawing the series. Although Australia retained the Ashes, the England-Australia series was drawn 2-2.

Stokes was quoted by BBC Sport as saying that this award earned him a lot of personal pride as it was his peers who voted in his favor. The 28-year-old, who is also regarded as one of the world’s best all-rounders, added that even as it was an individual award since this was within a team sport, he was only able to get to where he was because of what his time teammates also achieved.

Referring to both the World Cup win and the drawn Ashes series, New-Zealand born Stokes said he was proud to be part of both of them personally as well as a team.

PCA young player of the year award was given to Tom Banton of Somerset, the women’s player of the summer was bagged by Sophie Ecclestone, an English bowler.

Meanwhile, Chis Woakes and Stuart Broad were awarded ODI and Test players of the summer, respectively, and Harmer won the County Championship player of the year award.
