Ehsan Mani: Asia Cup Likely To Be Rescheduled In 2023

Asia Cup was supposed to be played in June 2021 but there are high chances that India will qualify for the WTC finals. India are currently leading the Test series 2-1 against England.  A draw or a win in the final Test match of the series will secure India’s place in WTC finals. New Zealand have already reached the finals of the tournament.

PCB chairman Ehsan Mani, in a recent press conference, stated “Asia Cup was supposed to be held last year, but it has been postponed to this year. At the moment, it looks like the Asian Cup will not be held this year as the WTC Finals are scheduled to take place in June. Sri Lanka had said that. they would try to host the tournament in June”

“The dates are clashing. We believe the tournament will not take place and we may have to push the tournament until 2023,” he added.

“It looks like India has reached the final and will face New Zealand. That’s why the Asian Cup which will be played in Sri Lanka will not go ahead. We are waiting for confirmation, but if it does not. not unfolding, we are planning for the future, ”Khan said at a virtual press conference.

Ehsan Mani Want Assurance On Their Fans, Journalists And Players Will Receive Visas For T20 World Cup

Ever since the 2008 Mumbai Terror attack, the political relations between India and Pakistan has turned sour. Pakistani players were barred from participating in the Indian Premier League. Now that India will be hosting the T20 World cup in coming October this year, PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani said the PCB has sent a letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC) seeking details on India’s issuance of visas for the T20 World Cup.

“India is set to host the T20 World Cup in October-November this year. I told the board that we wanted written confirmation from India that our fans, journalists and players will receive visas. I have a meeting with ICC and I will raise this point one more time, “Mani said.

The CCP has requested visa assurances from India for its players, support staff, fans and journalists. Mani also added that if India does not give assurances, the T20 World Cup must be moved elsewhere.

“The ICC said the insurance will come by March. If we don’t get the insurance then the tournament has to be moved. We have a visa issue, the Covid-19 situation also needs to be looked into. The ICC has made a contingency plan that if the T20 World Cup cannot be contested in India, it will take place in the UAE, ”Mani said.

“The ICC leadership said the decision should be finalized by March 31,” he concluded. There is a high possibility that India might allow Pakistani players, staffs and journalists in the country. However, Pakistani fans will still be restricted from entering India. ICC will give a final verdict on this by 31st March 2021.
