Aakash Chopra Believes Rishabh Pant Should Get Harsh On Himself

Rishabh Pant, who was once tipped to be India’s next wicket-keeper batsman, was dropped from India’s limited-over’s squad to face Australia. The rise and fall of Rishabh Pant can be directly blamed to the southpaw’s below average performance in recent years.

Be it in Indian Premier League or international stages, the 23-year-old has not been his regular self in recent times.  The regular exploits of KL Rahul has added to Pant’s misery and it looks like the Delhi Capital’s stumper will have to start from racks to prove his mettle yet again to the Indian selectors and fans.

Rishabh Pant Needs To Get His Act Together

Former Indian opener and cricket commentator Akash Chopra believe that Rishabh Pant is the victim of his own demise. “Rishabh Pant needed to understand this whenever he had the opportunity, he had to understand that the way he was getting out and whether he was able to finish the match or not. He has not made full use of the chances that he got and he only has himself to blame at this point in time,” Aakash Chopra told Cricbuzz.

Rishabh Pant, however, is included in India’s Test squad but has a very narrow chance of making it to the playing XI with Wriddhiman Saha also warming to appear in the team. Akash Chopra opined that Rishabh Pant needs to get a reality check and start getting harsh of himself if he ever wants to make a comeback in the Indian playing XI.

“Wriddhiman Saha has been keeping for India A in the practice game against Australia A. It means that Rishabh Pant has even lost his spot in Test cricket. At one point in time, he was India’s first-choice wicketkeeper across all three formats. He was also sent to the 2019 World Cup as a replacement,” Aakash Chopra said.

“If things have turned out to be this bad for him, he is still young and will get chances to bounce back. But he will have to be a bit harsh on himself that he did not make the most of his chances,” Chopra added.
