The Indian team has picked a new rhythm post the T20 World Cup 2021. India who was blamed for being cautious in its approach has now altered their plans altogether. They have adopted an all-out aggressive approach both while batting and bowling. This new model has suited well the young and fearless crop of youngsters. But the experienced ones are still finding their feet in this new environment. Lets look at Players Who Might Miss T20 World Cup 2022
We look at 5 such stars who might miss out on a spot for T20 World Cup 2022:
#5 Shardul Thakur
He was expected to shore up India’s lower order. Shardul Thakur walked into the T20 World Cup last year on the back of some impressive all-round performances. But Thakur was way below par in the big event. He didn’t deliver either with the bat or with the ball. Thakur hasn’t got a game for India post the World Cup. He has fallen way behind in the pecking order.
#4 Mohammad Shami
Mohammad Shami had a forgettable T20 World Cup 2021. He looked out of ideas on batting-friendly tracks in UAE. Shami failed to make the ball talk even with the new ball. His poor form cost India big time. India has played multiple T20Is since but Shami hasn’t featured in a single one of them. This is despite him having a stellar IPL season. India has started to look beyond Shami in the T20Is. He is all set to miss out on the T20 World Cup spot.
#3 Ravichandran Ashwin
He was one of India’s surprising selections for the last T20 World Cup. Ravichandran Ashwin featured in the T20I series against New Zealand. Ashwin spun a wonderful web over the Kiwis. It was expected that he will get a long run in this format. But after a few games, Ashwin was overlooked. His fitness didn’t help his cause either. Ashwin doesn’t seem to be in the reckoning for the World Cup later this year.
#2 KL Rahul
He was one of India’s premier T20 batsmen leading into the World Cup last year. KL Rahul despite raking up the numbers no longer seems a certainty in the playing XI. Frequent injuries haven’t helped his cause either. He played the IPL notching up 600 runs. But his strike rate was a major cause of concern. India has plenty of aggressive opening options that ace the template team wants to follow. Rahul doesn’t look a natural choice anymore.
#1 Virat Kohli
It would have been unimaginable to even think about an Indian team without Virat Kohli in it. But the tide has turned so much in the past year or so that dropping Kohli looks imminent. It seems he is just an innings away from the prospect of being dropped. Kohli’s whose numbers are still right up there with the best no longer holds the command with the willow. He is finding new ways of getting dismissed.
The rise of the likes of Deepak Hooda, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, and Suryakumar Yadav has put immense pressure on him. It might appear far-fetched but India’s playing XI in the World Cup might not necessarily feature Kohli at all times. The king needs to deliver big time in the run-up to the World Cup to stay in contention. Desperate times, desperate measures!
