The Indian team finished at the top of the points table in the first WTC cycle. They will be looking to maintain their consistent run at the top. Ravi Bishnoi has impressed each and everyone with his skill, first in the U-19 World Cup and then in the IPL. His ability to stay in the fight despite getting hit makes him a unique bowler. India currently has a factory of finger spinners in Test cricket but they don’t have a solid wrist spin option. Bishnoi can be groomed to develop into a 5-day bowler.

#4 Arzan Nagwaswalla

Arzan Nagwaswalla made heads turn when he was picked as India’s net bowler for the tour to England. The left-arm seamer with his ability to swing the ball both ways opens a great option for India. India have a bunch of quality right arm seamers but the cupboard is almost barren when it comes to left-armers. Nagwaswalla can fill that gap.

#3 Devdutt Padikkal

Devdutt Padikkal has earned laurels from all quarters for his talent and temperament. He was a revelation not just in the IPL but also across domestic tournaments. Padikkal being a left-hander adds variety to the Indian batting line-up that is predominantly filled with right-handers. He can play both spin and pace expertly. Padikkal if groomed can turn out to be a fine Test prospect.

#2 Deepak Chahar

Deepak Chahar is arguably one of India’s finest swing bowlers. The fact that he makes the white ball talk speaks volumes about his ability. Chahar grabbed headlines when he picked up 8 wickets for just 10 runs in a Ranji trophy game in 2010. India have a variety of seam bowlers. But a bowler like Chahar who can swing it both ways will be a valuable addition to the team.

#1 Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer made ripples in Ranji trophy cricket in the 2014-15 season. He bagged his IPL contract with DC thanks to his Ranji exploits. But Iyer has often been overlooked in the longest format of the game. Iyer can be groomed as a backup for Ajinkya Rahane. The Indian vice-captain is currently going through a lean phase. Iyer may prove to be an ideal replacement for Rahane at number 5. He is a fantastic player of spin and this is an area where he scores over Rahane.
