5 Current Cricketers Who Should Retire From Tests

Test cricket is the most difficult format of the game. The 5-day match tests you to the hilt. Only the best players are able to excel in this format. The mental toughness and technical aptitude needed for Test cricket are paramount. As compared to the limited-overs format where players may well get away with limited skills, one can’t escape this in the longest format. There are quite a few active cricketers who have played Tests but were unable to succeed. Lets look at 5 Cricketers Who Should Retire From Tests.

We look at 5 current cricketers who should retire from Tests:

#5 Chris Morris

Chris Morris was the most expensive player in the IPL Auctions 2021. He is a utility player in the game’s shortest format. Morris is handy with both bat and the ball. But the same can’t be said about Morris in the Test format. He has hardly played 4 Tests picking 12 wickets scoring 173 runs. Morris a T20 freelancer nowadays doesn’t seem to be thinking about Tests anymore. It’s time he announces his Test retirement.

#4 Adil Rashid

Adil Rashid has been one of the leading spinners in white-ball cricket. He has been captain Morgan’s trusted player. But sadly Rashid could never cement his place in the Test side. He has 60 wickets to his name in 19 matches. Rashid last played a match in 2019. It seems highly unlikely that he will get a chance to make a Test comeback. He could very well retire from Tests.

#3 Aaron Finch

Aaron Finch is one of the most powerful openers in limited-overs cricket. He is lethal, especially in the game’s shortest format. Finch averages 37.5 with the bat in T20Is. His strike is an outstanding 150.2. But Finch couldn’t translate his white-ball success to red-ball cricket. He has played a total of 5 Tests. Finch looked out of depth in the home Test series against India in 2018-19. Expect Finch to call it a day from Tests soon.

#2 Murali Vijay

Murali Vijay is probably one of the most underrated openers in the last decade. Vijay’s discipline in Test cricket was unmatched. He moulded his game beautifully to play long innings for India. If India had decent results overseas in the period between 2013-16, it was largely owing to Vijay’s vigil at the top of the order. Vijay last played a Test in 2018 in Australia. The Indian team seems to have moved beyond Vijay and a comeback looks unlikely. He may be well served if he announces his Test retirement.

#1 Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan made an outstanding Test debut in 2013. He smashed the fastest Test century on debut. Dhawan’s knock meant he was here to stay. But inconsistencies in his game cost him a permanent place in the side. The likes of KL Rahul started stepping up. He made a comeback of sorts in 2017 in Sri Lanka winning the man of the series award. But Dhawan much like Vijay fell down the pecking order post the England tour in 2018. He might still be a match-winner in the limited-overs but his Test career is as good as over. Dhawan can call a day over his Test career.
