Shakib Al Hasan to miss the ODI series: Following a board meeting in Dhaka on Wednesday, BCB president Nazmul Hassan stated that Shakib Al Hasan is likely to miss the ODIs against the West Indies next month. Shakib was originally selected for all three squads, but it now appears that he will end the tour after the T20Is.
During their 2-0 Test series loss to the West Indies last week, Shakib served as the team’s captain for the first time in three years. Mominul Haque resigned from the role just before the tour, and he was appointed captain in his place.
The president of BCB said, “I heard that he [Shakib] had earlier [before going to the West Indies] told Jalal Yunus that he might not play the ODIs. I guess if I talk to him today or tomorrow then I will get to know about it clearly. But he did not notify the board officially yet. But you can consider this as an official notice as he verbally relayed the message to Jalal Bhai.”
Shakib Al Hasan made a sarcastic remark that he was available for all three formats in the West Indies after he was included in the teams before the conclusion of Bangladesh’s Test match against Sri Lanka last month. However, Hassan said that he had requested the time off before the West Indies tour.
Shakib’s absence from the ODIs is most likely due to the fact that they are not a part of the ODI Super League. His successor in the ODI team has allegedly been picked as Taijul Islam. Mohammad Saifuddin, Shohidul Islam, and Yasir Ali, who were all a part of the white-ball squads, are already absent from Bangladesh.
Before the ODIs on July 10, 13, and 16, Bangladesh plays three T20 Internationals on July 2, 3, and 7 against West Indies. Earlier, the visitors lost the Test Series 2-0 showcasing poor batting skills. If they want to win the ODIs, they need better help in the middle over.
