Playing their first test of the tour, Bangladesh stumbled and it was not a pretty sight. The visitors were wrapped up by the hosts for just 103 in the first innings. West Indies are looking strong at the end of the day as they are at 97 with 2 wickets down. Captain Braithwait and Bonner are at the crease on Stumps Day 1.

After winning the toss West Indies decided to bowl first forcing the visitors to bat on Day 1, session 1. What happened after took the Bangladesh team and its fan by surprise. West showed its dominance at home and it felt like the Green team wasn’t ready for it.

Bangladesh didn’t look very comfortable with the Duke as six batters got out on a duck. Captain Shakib Al Hasan was the only player who hit a half-century. He was responsible for over half of Bangladesh’s total. The only other players to achieve double figures in a weak batting lineup were the veteran opener, Tamim Iqbal, with 29, and Litton Das with 12. Only 32.5 overs were bowled in the innings scoring just 103 in the first innings.

On a brown first-day pitch with inconsistent bounce, the West Indies fast bowlers were superb. Won the toss and chose to first, dismissed three wickets in 31 deliveries. The wickets were split among the four WI pacers. Jayden Seales got three for 33 in ten overs, while Alzarri Joseph took three for 33 in 8.5 overs for a career-best haul. Kemar Roach, who had passed the fitness test the day before, started with two early wickets and concluded with 2 for 21, while Kyle Mayers finished with 2 for 10 from five overs.

West Indies’ first wicket partnership was between Braithwaite and John Campbell, who put on 44 runs before Campbell was out for 24 and Raymon Reifer was dismissed for 11, leaving the hosts at 72 for 2. Braithwaite held the innings together, allowing West Indies to reach stumps with a first-inning lead 1in sight. Between innings, captain Kraigg Brathwaite called for the heavy roller, and West Indies reached 95 for 2 by stumps. Nkrumah Bonner was on 12 and Braithwaite was 42 not out.

It is unsure if Bangladesh will be able to bounce back from the position they are in. West Indies must be jubilant with the way their bowlers performed. Duke did it talking and we were not ready for it. Hope to see an even better game tomorrow.
