Sunrisers Hyderabad’s full time captain Kane Williamson has left the camp to attend the birth of his child.
Hyderabad, who won their previous game against Mumbai Indians to kept their hopes alive to qualify for playoffs will be without the services of Kane Williamson when they play against Punjab Kings on Sunday.
Although, if RCB wins today, then it will an end of road for both SRH and PBKS, but if RCB today and Delhi on Saturday lose, then whosoever team wins amongst SRH and PBKS will raise their chances to qualify. However, a lot will then depend on the net run-rate.
So, considering the important last game, SRH management has to take an important call about who could lead SRH side in the absence of Kane Williamson.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who served SRH as vice-captain in the 11th season of IPL, could be the serious contender to be the SRH captain in place of Kane Williamson for the final league match.
The senior player bowled an impressive wicket-maiden 19th over in the nail-biting game against Mumbai Indians on May 17 to help his team win the game. And considering his seriousness and experience he might be a player SRH might choose to lead the team for the Sunday clash.
Also, we can’t ignore the name of Nicholas Pooran in the list of players who can become interim captain of SRH.
Two weeks ago, Nicholas Pooran was named as the captain of West-Indies white-ball team. He has been playing as deputy to Kieron Pollard for the last 2 years, last year in the absence of Kieron Pollard he even captained the Caribbean side against Australia, which series West-Indies won by 4-1. So, he is the strongest among all to be the new SRH captain.
Apart from Bhuvi and Pooran, SRH have another option in the form of Aiden Markram, who also have the captaincy experience in his resume. He captained the South African side against team India in 2018 in the absence of FAF du Plessis. He also led South Africa to win the U-19 World Cup in 2014.
