War of words erupts between Cricket pundits after Deepti’s run out in final ODI

IND-W vs ENG-W:The low-scoring yet nail-biting Saturday clash between India women and England women’s saw a thrilling end at the Lord’s in London.

Chasing 170 was not a tough task for the English side, but it was India’s bowlers, who came to field with different plans and bowled out the home side for 153 to complete a historic clean sweep.

England was way behind in the low-target chase as they lost their ninth wicket at the score of 118 and were still 52 behind from the victory.

Charlotte Dean and Freya Davies then tried to brought their side back in game by adding 35 runs for the final wicket before Deepti ran out Dean for 47 to unlock a 16-run win for the women in blue.

Deepti Sharma Mankads Charlotte Dean (Part of rules)

During the 44th over of the innings, Deepti Sharma ran out Dean at the non-end striker’s after spotting Dean leaving her crease before the ball was bowled.

That run-out is legal as per the rules, but still many cricketers shared different opinions on the Mankad controversy.

India‘s leading off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who had famously used the ‘Mankad’ dismissal in the 2019 IPL, funnily wrote, “Why the hell are you trending Ashwin? Tonight is about another bowling hero @Deepti_Sharma06.”

Broad, who recently bowled the most expensive over in test cricket, wrote “I find the debate of the Mankad really interesting. So many views from either side. I personally wouldn’t like to win a match like that, also, very happy for others to feel differently,”

Legendary Indian opener Virender Sehwag also shared his opinion on the same. Moreover, he also shared the written rule as well on twitter. He wrote, Funny to see so many English guys being poor losers. #Runout .

England’s skipper said in a post-match talk that the run-out is within the rules.

“It’s within the rules, so a disappointing end I think and hopefully it doesn’t take the shine off a good summer and a good series in the end.” Said England Captain Amy Jones.

Renuka Singh Thakur (4) took the highest wickets for India in the third and final ODI. However, Jhulan grabbed all the limelight with magnificent spell of 10-30-2 in her last international game.

She retired from international cricket as a leading wicket-taker in ODIs with 255 wickets in 203 games. She also received a guard of honour when she came out to bat and bowl.

India won the three match ODI series by 3-0.
