Sunrisers Eastern Cape has announced their first two signings for the inaugural edition of the Cricket South Africa (CSA) T20 League.
South Africa’s star batter Aiden Markram and medium-pacer Ottneil Baartman are the first two members to join the franchise.
On Tuesday, the management confirmed the name of its team as the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise named it Sunrisers Eastern Cape in Cricket South Africa (CSA) T20 League.

Interestingly, Markram also played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2022 IPL, tallying 381 runs at an average of 47.63 in 14 games. His highest score for the IPL 2016 champions was 68*. While he recorded three half-centuries as well.
Six privately owned franchises will compete in a 20-over league beginning in January 2023, according to a joint announcement from Cricket South Africa (CSA) and SuperSport TV earlier in April.
The six teams in South Africa’s inaugural T20 League will have the option of signing players from a world-class pool that includes some of the top domestic and international cricketers. Additionally, there are all Proteas and domestic players with contracts who have committed to the League.
The 17-man squad for the six franchises will consist of three international players, one Proteas player, and one uncapped South African player. Prior to the auction, the franchises will be permitted to pre-sign up to five players, with three of those players coming from other countries.
