Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has expressed his views on whether MS Dhoni will be a part of the CSK camp in next season or not.
The speculations are going on for many days as when MSD was reappointed as the captain of CSK in the ongoing IPL 2022, the 40-year-old veteran said, “You will definitely see me in the yellow jersey. Whether it is this yellow jersey or some other yellow jersey, you will have to wait and watch,” when asked by Danny Morrison about his future plans with CSK.
Since then, everyone was curious to know a little information regarding his plans, but Dhoni being Dhoni, he has the reputation of doing things without telling anyone.
To clear this air, legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar said, “I think he (Dhoni) said, ‘You will definitely see me in yellow’. Whether it’s a player uniform or another yellow, it remains to be seen. I do believe he will be around as a mentor. If he wasn’t keen on continuing, he would not have taken the captaincy back.”
Earlier, Shane Watson, who played under MSD in 3 IPL seasons from 2018 to 2020 also shared his thoughts while talking to The Grade Cricketer podcast, “I think, when he said ‘different yellow (jersey)’, he is probably talking about a coaching shirt than a playing shirt.
He further added, “He is just CSK through and through. I’ve been talking through with him at times, we had a lot of chats and that’s one thing I know that he wants to get into, whether it is coaching or being a director of cricket.”
In 13 games MS Dhoni played so far in this season, he has scored 206 runs at an average of 34.33 and with a strike rate of 128.75.
Two days before commencement of IPL 2022 he stepped down from captaincy and announced Ravindra Jadeja his successor, but due to captaincy pressure Jadeja was seen clueless in all department, as a result CSK lost 6 games in 8 matches under him.
Jadeja then decided to give back the captaincy to MSD. The four time IPL champions CSK are currently placed 9th in the points table with 4 wins in 13 games and are already out of the IPL 2022 playoffs race.
Chennai Super Kings will play their final match of this season on May 20th, 2022 against Rajasthan Royals at the Brabourne Stadium.
