Arrested on suspicion of rape, Danushka Gunathilaka: Danushka Gunathilaka, a cricketer for Sri Lanka, was detained on November 5 in Sydney. Danushka Gunatilleke has reportedly been detained following a woman’s allegations of sexual assault, according to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). The Sri Lankan team included Danushka Gunatilleke when they played England in Sydney. According to reports, the arrest happened following the game.

The Australian stated that the Sri Lankan celebrity has been accused of four instances of sexual assault.

The charges include engaging in sexual activity without permission. Apparently, a 29-year-old lady who Danushka Gunatilleke met on a dating app has accused him of sexually abusing her, according to stories in Australian media.

The event occurred earlier this week at a home in Sydney. The Sri Lankan cricketer was detained last night at the team hotel. Later today, he will be produced in court.

Danushka Gunathilaka Rape Charge: As per reports, the arrest was made from the team hotel in Sydney’s central business district. This was in connection with an alleged sexual abuse complaint of a 29-year-old woman.

The sexual assault was reported at a property in Rose Bay earlier in the week

“The woman met with the man after communicating with him for a number of days via an online dating application. It’s alleged he then sexually assaulted her on the evening of November 2, 2022.

As part of ongoing investigations, a crime scene examination was undertaken by specialist police at an address in Rose Bay yesterday.

Following further inquiries, a 31-year-old man was arrested at a hotel on Sussex Street, Sydney, shortly before 1 am today (Sunday, November 6, 2022),” said a New South Wales police statement.

“He was taken to Sydney City Police Station and charged with four counts of sexual intercourse without consent. The Sri Lankan national was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court via AVL today,” the statement further said.

Yesterday, specialised police conducted a crime scene investigation at a location in Rose Bay as part of continuing investigations.

According to a New South Wales police statement “a 31-year-old man was detained. At a hotel on Sussex Street in Sydney just before 1 am today (Sunday, November 6, 2022),”

He was brought to Sydney City Police Station and accused with four counts of having sex without permission. The statement said, “The Sri Lankan national was denied bail to appear via AVL before Parramatta Bail Court today.

Gunathilaka was forced to leave the T20 World Cup in the first round due to a hamstring injury. He remained in Australia with the group after exclusion.

He has participated for Sri Lanka in eight Tests, 47 ODIs, and 46 T20Is since making his debut in November 2015.

Sri Lanka was eliminated from the competition on Sunday after losing to England at the Sydney Cricket Ground in their last group encounter.

This morning, the Sri Lankan team travelled to Colombo without Danushka Gunatilleke.
