What is the current Situation of IPL 2025?
BCCI officially suspended the IPL 2025 for a week after the PBKS vs DC match in Dharamsala was abandoned midway due to a blackout and nearby air raid alerts. The situation has led to several overseas players to leave the country, fearing further security concerns. Although no foreign board issued withdrawal notices, players were reportedly in touch with top BCCI officials, and the league’s continuity remains uncertain due to the ongoing tensions.
In total, 16 matches remain in IPL 2025, including 12 league games, four playoffs, and an uncertainty regarding the replay of the abandoned PBKS and DC match. While the BCCI has not committed to a cut-off date for resumption, they have been looking at alternatives, including neutral venues and a shifted schedule. The immediate challenge is regathering international players, especially with their national commitments in June and the upcoming World Test Championship final.
Will the Remaining IPL 2025 Be Played in England?
As the IPL faces barriers, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has offered a solution of hosting the rest of the IPL in England during a possible September window. ECB chief Richard Gould reportedly reached out to BCCI, proposing venues across the UK, leveraging England’s extensive cricket infrastructure. Former England captain Michael Vaughan also backed this idea of top-tier stadiums and a relatively open calendar, given the likely cancellation of the Asia Cup.
With India touring England for a five-match Test series starting June 20, hosting the IPL in the UK could offer continuity for players and ideal preparation for test cricket. However, final decisions rest on security, scheduling, and communication with the stakeholders.
