Shikhar Dhawan is an Indian left-hand opening batter who was born in New Delhi, India on 5 December 1985. Shikhar Dhawan has been a part of the Indian squad for almost a decade now. However, presently he is only seen as a consistent part of the ODI squad. Shikhar Dhawan played his last Test in 2018 and hasn’t been a part of the T20I format as well for the past 2 years. Shikhar Dhawan was the top scorer for India back in ICC World Cup 2015, Champions Trophy 2013, and 2017. He also won the Player of the Tournament award in ICC Champions Trophy 2013. Shikhar Dhawan started off playing cricket at the age of 6 years. Dhawan attended St. Mark Senior Secondary School in the Meera Bagh area of Delhi. At the age of 12 years, Shikhar Dhawan joined Sonnet Club in Delhi and got coaching from Tarak Sinha along with his cousin. When Dhawan joined the club, he started off as a wicketkeeper batter but later dropped wicket keeping to focus more on his batting skills.

Shikhar Dhawan started off his domestic career back in 1999 when he was picked in the Delhi Under-16 squad for the Vijay Merchant trophy. Dhawan smashed 755 runs in 9 matches including 2 centuries and ended up as the leading run-scorer of the tournament.

A year later in 2001, Shikhar Dhawan was picked up in the Under-19 squad of Delhi and smashed 282 runs in just 5 matches.

Shikhar Dhawan was picked up in the squad of the Under-19 Indian team for the ICC Under-19 World Cup in 2004 and ended up as the highest run-getter of the tournament scoring 505 runs including 3 centuries.

Shikhar Dhawan made his first-class debut in 2004 for Delhi in a match against Andhra Pradesh and scored 49 runs in the match. In his debut season, Shikhar Dhawan smashed 461 runs in just 6 matches.

In 2018, Shikhar Dhawan played his 100th ODI match against South Africa and scored his 13th century.

In June 2021, Shikhar Dhawan was appointed as the captain of the Indian team for the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka where he completed 6000 runs in one-day cricket.

Shikhar Dhawan made his IPL debut in 2008 in the inaugural season and scored 340 runs in 14 matches while playing for Delhi Daredevils.

In 2009, Shikhar Dhawan was roped in by Mumbai Indians but didn’t get many chances in the next 2 seasons.

In 2011, he was picked up by Deccan Chargers and remained with the squad for 2 seasons ending up as the leading run scorer for them in both seasons.

Shikhar Dhawan was then bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013 and remained with the franchise till 2018.

In 2019, Shikhar Dhawan was roped in by Delhi Daredevils for 5.20 crores.
