Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer climb up in latest ICC ODI rankings

Indian skipper Shikhar Dhawan and batter Shreyas Iyer have climbed up in the latest ICC Men’s ODI Rankings.

Dhawan, who scored a match-winning 97 in the series opener against the West Indies, has climbed up one place to joint-13th position. While Iyer, who was struggling with his form before the series, was given a chance to bat at no.3 and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands and posted back-to-back half centuries to move up 20 places to joint-54th place in the rankings for the batters.

Notably, team India’s regular captain Rohit Sharma and ex-skipper Virat Kohli dropped a spot each in the new updates to the ICC Men’s ODI Rankings.

The former no.1 batter in ODI, Virat Kohli has slipped to fifth position, while Rohit Sharma dropped to sixth.

Team India were playing against the West Indies for a 3-match ODI series without their star players like regular captain Rohit Sharma, their destructive wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant, dependable all-rounder Hardik Pandya, speedsters Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami.

In the absence of Rohit, Shikhar Dhawan was appointed as the captain of team India, and he did a fabulous job in guiding the team to claim a complete white wash over West Indies at their home.

As per the ICC rules, the rankings are updated every Wednesday for men’s cricket, and these rankings didn’t include the third and final match between India and West Indies, which was played on Wednesday night.

In the coming week, we can see a bit rise in Shikhar Dhawan’s and Shreyas Iyer’s rankings as they scored 58 and 44 respectively in the third ODI.

While Shubman Gill, who was given a chance to open the innings alongside Shikhar Dhawan in the series has scored the highest run in the 3-match series, with 205 in 3 games at an average of 102.50, including a splendid 98, and he has better chances to climb big in the next week’s updated ICC ODI batter’s rankings.
