Sydney Sixers maintained their dominance by defeating the Melbourne Renegades by 37 runs in the 24th match of the Women’s Big Bash League at the Eastern Oval in Ballarat on Sunday.
With 5 wins in 6 games, Sydney Sixers reached the top spot at the points table after restring the Melbourne for just 151 to claim victory.
Earlier, Sixers openers’ starred after doing a 151-partnerhship for which Suzie Bates contributed 66 and Alyssa Healy 78.
Melbourne Renegades Vs Sydney Sixers match highlights
Suzie Bates and Alyssa Healy were just flawless in their opening wicket stand, as they both provided their side a dream start by adding 151 for the first wicket.
They were just uncontrollable by the Renegades’ bowlers and kept on adding runs with a good strike rate.
Sydney played the 16 overs of the innings without losing a wicket and at that everyone was predicting that they might walk back with not out tags. Melbourne Renegades skipper Sophie Molineux, however, didn’t let that happen as she first removed Bates for 66, and in the same over she dismissed Healy for 78.
Suzie Bates scored 66 off 47. While Healy recorded 78 off 54. Bates made the runs with the help of six fours. Healy, however, smashed 3 sixes in addition to six sixes.
They campaign didn’t stop there for the Melbourne, as the small cameos by Ashleigh Gardner 17 off 10, Erin Burns 16* off 8 and Ellyse Perry’s 1-ball 4 helped the team reach 188 mark in 20 overs.
Melbourne Renegades to chase 189 in 20 overs
In reply, the Renegades failed to stay up in a chase may be due to pressure or the tight bowling by Sydney bowlers.
After losing top 3 batters inside the powerplay overs, team faced two big shocks when they lost their reliable Gergia Prestwidege and the skipper Sophie Molineux in the next two overs.
The Renegades were struggling for 38 for 5 after 7.2, then a partnership of 81 between Carly Leeson and Rhiann O Donnell did provide some relief to the side, but as soon as Donnell left the crease, Renegades again witnessed the collapse and were only managed to put 151 on board for 9 in 20 overs.
Carly Lesson was the highest run-scorer for the side. She played a knock of 52 in just 32 under pressure.
Apart from her, O Donnell scored 32 and skipper Molineux 18, and all other were failed to touch even the double digit mark.
Maitlan Brown did the most economical bowling for Sydney, as she gave only 16 in her 4 overs. Lauren Cheatle also bagged 3 wickets in the process.

Alyssa Healy, who scored the maximum run for the Sydney Sixers received the player of the match award. She struck 78 off 54 with the help of 6 fours and 3 maximums.
