IPL 2022: Daniel Sams, Tim David Power MI To A Thrilling Victory Against GT

MI vs GT Match Summary: Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians, who are at opposing ends of the points ladder, faced off in the 51st fixture of the IPL 2022. It was a thrilling encounter, as the game had ended in a dramatic way. Mumbai made a tremendous comeback, restoring its power and returning to demonstrate its legacy. Unfortunately, Rohit’s team made a late comeback, yet spectators were delighted to see the team win the second match in a nail-biter.

Gujarat Titans won the toss and chose MI to bat first. Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma got the batting off to a good start, putting up 74 runs for the first wicket. Rohit, in particular, regained his form compared to prior outings. Rashid Khan’s stint cost Rohit Sharma 43 runs in 28 balls, with 5 fours and 2 sixes.

Suryakumar Yadav, Mumbai’s consistent hitter in earlier matches, was not at his finest in the clash, surrendering his wicket for just 13 runs against Sangwan. Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma attempted to solidify the innings, but Alzarri Joseph came into the attack to claim his first victim, Kishan 45 (29).

MI vs GT Match Summary: ‘Player Of The Match’ Awarded To Tim David

MI’s middle order struggled to show progress and gain momentum established by the openers, as Tilak Varma 21(16) failed to tackle the delivery went run out made by GT skipper Hardik Pandya. Rashid bowled ‘BigMan’ Pollard, who was sent to the pavilion for 4 runs. Tim David seemed to be the team’s formidable batter, with his fearless knock in the fast five overs being a real game-changer, going unbeaten with 44 (21), featuring four sixes and two fours to post a respectable total of 177/6 in 20 overs.

GT had a promising start to their session in their hunt for the total, as openers Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill accomplished a superb performance to register a 106-run partnership for the first wicket. Since both openers struggled to confront M Ashwin, the well-settled duo Saha (40) and Gill (36), perished in the same over.

In the chase, captain Hardik Pandya hammered a quickfire knock of 14 ball 24 runs with 4 fours against his former team, stepped out for a run-out, and the middle order struggled to continue the tempo as Sai Sudharsan with 14 runs and Rahul Tewatia with 3 runs surrendered their wickets, making things tough for the team.

The last over of the innings was set to be handled by David Miller and Rashid Khan, but Rohit modified his strategy and called in Daniel Sams. The equation became much closer to favoring Gujarat in the final over, but Daniel used all of his expertise under pressure, his last two balls to hit a six left the spectators with fingers crossed, the last ball with a low full toss Daniel brilliantly handed his team their second win. MI won the match by a score of 5 runs.
