South Africa women players Laura Wolvaardt and Ayabonga Khaka have made big jumps in the latest ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings, released by the ICC (International Cricket Council on June 21.
The destructive opening batter Laura Wolvaardt, who batted brilliantly for her team in their 3rd and final ODI match against Ireland at the Castle Avenue, Dublin, has made a huge gain in the ICC rankings as she edged past Australian captain Meg Lanning to claim the fourth spot.
She posted 89 runs off 128 balls, including 6 fours. She also recorded the second highest scores in the series with 124 runs in 3 innings.
The 23-year-old has now 713 rating points in her bag that helped her outshined Meg Lanning, who is having 710 rating points.
Alyssa Healy holding the first position with 785 points. While Lara Goodall, who scored the most runs 143 for the Proteas in the South Africa versus Ireland series, made a huge jump and climbed up by 15 places to be at 43rd place in the rankings.
South African speedster Ayabonga Khaka also made a jump in the ICC Women’s ODI Bowling Rankings as she climbed from sixth to 5th position in the latest rankings after a splendid performance in the series against Ireland.
However, the senior campaigner didn’t pick many wickets in the ODI series against Ireland, but she ended the series with a splendid economy rate of just 1.40 and with 2 wickets.
Khaka has also edged past the veteran India fast bowler Jhulan Goswami to reach the 5th place with 688 rating points.
Sophie Ecclestone of England continues to be at the top spot in the ICC Women’s ODI bowling rankings with 771 rating points. While Shabhnam Ismail has reached the career-best rating of 755 points after taking 11-wicket in the series to claim second spot in the rankings.
South Africa won the series by 3-0 against Ireland, which is the major reason behind big gains of South African players in the latest ICC women’s cricket rankings.
