Jos Buttler backs Morgan as England’s ODI captain

Jos Buttler backs Morgan:

The destructive wicket-keeper batter, Jos Buttler, who was handling the captain responsibility in the final ODI against Netherlands has insisted that Eoin Morgan has the full support of the England dressing room despite his lean run with the bat after Ben Stokes claimed that Morgan’s poor form was a media invention.

The spotlight on Morgan’s form and fitness increased when he struck two ducks in England’s ODI series against the Netherlands and missed the third match due to a groin injury.

In 48 white-ball innings, in competitive cricket, during the past 18 months, he has scored just 1 half-century. He has acknowledged that he will need to skip games to avoid muscular injuries before the T20 World Cup in October.

Buttler, who is with English side since 2011 has seen many changes in the side. Although the one thing which is constant is the Eoin Morgan as the captain of England’s limited-over side for the past 10 years. And in the presence of Eoin Morgan as captain, England secured their first-ever ICC World Cup in 2019.

“There’s certainly no questioning of his position from within the camp,” Buttler said. “I can’t put into words what he’s achieved. Everyone always talks about his captaincy. But you forget what a brilliant batsman he’s been for England in over 200 ODIs. It doesn’t just go away overnight. Everyone in the team is backing him.”

Ben Stokes on Eoin Morgan

Earlier, Ben Stokes, the ‘new era’ England’s side test captain, also defended Morgan’s position. While speaking at Headingley ahead of his side’s third Test against New Zealand.  He stated that the limited-over skipper’s two ducks will not give him hard time.

Buttler, who was captaining in his ninth ODI after Morgan’s injury, said. “I was disappointed for Morgs to miss out. But it’s a good challenge and an honour any time you get to captain the team.

The wicket-keeper batter smashed an unbeaten 86 off 64. Also, he did a 161-run partnership in just 121 balls with the centurion Jason Roy to claim a 3-0 victory against Netherlands.
