After an almost 3-4 nail-biting days of guessing who should lead team India in the one-off test, BCCI has clarified that Jasprit Bumrah will lead team India in the fifth test against England starting on July 1.
This chaos of captaincy has been created after the team India’s all-format captain Rohit Sharma tested positive for COVID-19 some days back and his availability became a million-dollar question for everybody.
As India and England were ready to lock horns in the fifth and final test, Rohit Sharma’s COVID positive report came as a bit of a setback for Indian fans as the final match will decide who will the last year’s incomplete series, which India lead by 2-1.
Last year, before the commencement of the fifth and final tests some of Indian players tested positive for COVID-19 that resulted in postponement of the game. And the match was rescheduled and now will start from July 1.
In this highly important and high-voltage game between the two giants of world cricket, team India wants each of their star players in the line-up, but unfortunately first the side faced vice-captain KL Rahul’s exclusion and now the skipper Rohit Sharma has been officially ruled out of the series.
The game will start in exactly 21 hours from now, and the Board of Cricket for Control in India (BCCI) has clarified that Jasprit Bumrah will lead the team India in fifth test against England, while Rishabh Pant will handle the vice-captain’s position.
India Vs England Test series:
When India played against England last year, Virat Kohli was the captain of the Indian team with Ravi Shastri was the head coach. A lot have changed from then as Virat left his captaincy and Rohit Sharma took over captaincy of all formats.
After the T20 World 2021, Ravi Shastri‘s contract came to an end, and Rahul Dravid was named as Team India’s new head coach.
Similarly, the England side will face India with new captain and coach combination. Last year during the 5-match series, Joe Root was the captain of England, while Chris Silverwood was the coach. Now, England will play under leadership of Ben Stokes with Brendon McCullum as the head coach of the side.
Some hours ago, the over charged England side, who recently defeated the current test champions New Zealand by 3-0 has announced their playing XI for the fifth test against India.
