IPL 2022: Analysis On IPL Points Table

IPL Points Table 2022

The 15th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has successfully completed its midway mark in the tournament. Including the existing eight games, the IPL 2022 featured two additional teams. All through the ongoing season, all ten teams have contributed their best in order to preserve a spot in the playoffs.

The Indian T20 League added a lot more drama to the season, as mammoth teams underperformed and previously struggled underdogs made a spectacular comeback to clinch comfortable positions in the points tables.

IPL 2022: Points Table Analysis

#10 Mumbai Indians (MI)

The five-time champions MI have had a disappointing season in the IPL, losing all eight games they have faced so far. Rohit utilized all of his expertise to secure a victory; they came close to winning a few games, but the circumstances didn’t influence Mumbai. They have a well-equipped team, yet they consistently fail across both departments.

MI has played 8 matches this season and has lost all of them, placing them at the bottom of the standings with 0 points at the NRR -1.000. However, MI progressing in the points table will find it difficult for them to get a win in their current form. They have only one opportunity to stay in the season if they put up some magical performance and win all of their remaining games.

#9 Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

The bowling and batting lineups for the four-time winners CSK have fallen short of expectations. They have potential players in the pool, but they are inconsistent in their efforts to succeed in matchups. Ravindra Jadeja is disappointed with his debut leadership, which he handed over from MS Dhoni. So far, they’ve brought the best out of the unit and haven’t managed to find a way to cement a secure position on the leaderboard.

They played 8 games and won only two of them, earning 4 points at an NRR of -0.538, putting them in bottom 2nd place behind the Mumbai Indians. Despite the fact that CSK still has six games coming up from here, they must fire the guns in order to stay in the tournament. Winning all six games, on the other hand, will be a difficult task for the defending champions.

#8 Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

The two-time IPL winners have had a strong start to the season, which opened with a match between the previous season’s finalists, CSK and KKR. They won the first match but were unable to sustain their momentum, however following that, KKR  occasionally won two more games. KKR, captained by Shreyas Iyer, is struggling this season. They had a strong squad but were unable to perform to their full potential.

They are ranked eighth in the points list after winning only three of eight games earning six points at an NRR of +0.080. They have six games remaining in the season, and if they give their best attempts and fortune on their side, they will fight the standings and make the playoffs.

#7 Punjab Kings (PBKS)

The Punjab Kings, captained by Mayank Agarwal, are equally split in terms of wins and losses. They had a terrific start to the season and looking to get back on track with a string of victories to climb up into the top half of the points table and secure a playoff berth by boosting their NRR. Liam Livingstone has been their most consistent player, scoring match-winning runs to enable Punjab to dominate from the front, but was lacking the best partner.

They are ranked sixth in the points table, having won four of their eight games and obtaining eight points at an NRR of -0.419. But since PBKS has yet to win an IPL trophy, they have an opportunity to do so by performing effectively in the remaining six matches.

#6 Delhi Capitals (DC)

DC has a handful of fresh, skillful players capable of changing the game’s outcome. In the current season, Delhi has a decent NRR, which might enable them to move into the top half of the standings and qualify for the playoffs. The Rishabh Pant-led team has a chance to win their maiden IPL title since they are determined to reach the finals. They finished as runner-up in the 2020 season but fell short of lifting the cup against the now-struggling Mumbai Indians.

Despite winning three of their seven games, they are ranked seventh on the leaderboard, with six points and an NRR of +0.715. They still have more 7 games left, which they will be used to secure their maiden IPL championship.

#5 Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)

In contrast to previous seasons, RCB has produced a decent start to the season. Faf du Plessis has been named the new skipper, succeeding Virat Kohli, who stepped down to relieve the pressure of captaincy for contributing significantly to the team as a player. However, Kohli is struggling to get a big score and has already been dismissed for a golden duck couple of occasions. RCB  have a combination of experienced and rookies, and they need to strengthen even more in order to implement the strategies necessary to win the IPL under the new leadership.

RCB finished fifth in the rankings after winning 5 of 9 games and amassing 10 points at an NRR of -0.572. They have a good chance of making the playoffs and securing a position in the finals.

#4 Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)

LSG, one of the new teams introduced for the ongoing season, has had an excellent start. Despite their hard work and determination, they earned a well-deserved spot in their inaugural season. Despite winning 5 of their 8 games, they are ranked fourth in the points standings, with 10 points at NRR +0.334. The team lead by KL Rahul is hopeful of making the playoffs this season and lifting their maiden IPL championship.

#3 Rajasthan Royals (RR)

RR, the inaugural winners of the IPL, are currently leading the points table and will be hungry to capture the title with outstanding efforts from both departments. Sanju Samson’s team is in the first position with six victories out of eight games for a tally of 12 points and an NRR of +0.561.

If they continue to win consecutive games in the next six games, they will be undoubtedly in the first place and will advance to the playoffs to claim the championship.

#2 Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

In comparison to previous seasons, the 2016 IPL champions SRH have had an outstanding run. They brought about many changes to the lineup throughout the auctions, and they seem to be a formidable team with a lot of young potential on the roster.

They are placed 3rd place in the standings with 10 points and NRR +0.691If they win consecutive matches in the next six games, they will be undoubtedly in the first place and will advance to the playoffs to claim the championship.

#1 Gujarat Titans (GT)

GT, one of the two new IPL teams, has earned recognition and praises from the cricket world for their continued determination to win the IPL title in their debut season. They are a well-balanced side, with Hardik Pandya confidently guiding them to a promising victory.

They are second in the standings despite losing only one of their seven games so far in this. And are one of the well-deserved contenders to win the IPL 2022 season. They should continue their winning streak in the remaining seven games to lift the prestigious title.
