IND vs SA: SA’s Aiden Markram Test Positive of COVID-19, Ruled Out of Next 2 T20I

IND vs SA T20I: South African batter Aiden Markram has been ruled out of the rest of the T20I series, CSA confirmed on Wednesday. He tested positive for Covid-19 before the series’ first match in Delhi and did not play the last two T20Is as well.

The information was shared on CSA’s Twitter Account and the statement said “Proteas batsman spent seven days in quarantine after testing positive for COVID-19 last week and will not be able to complete his return to play program in time to take part in the remainder of the T20 series.” It is further informed that “The player is healthy and well and has been cleared to return home to also look after his mental and emotional wellbeing after isolation in a local facility as required when an individual tests positive on tour.”

There has been some hiatus in the South Africa camp as Quinton de Kock is also in his healthiest state as he suffered a wrist injury in the first game and had to miss the rest of the matches. The South Africa Board also questioned his availability in the 4th T20I as they said, “Wicket-keeper batsman, Quinton de Kock, has made a marked improvement in his recovery from a wrist injury. The Proteas’ medical staff will continue to assess his progress and make a decision on his availability for match four in due course,”

With the fourth T20I slated for Friday in Rajkot, South Africa leads the five-match series 2-1.

After comfortably winning the first two T20Is of the series, Temba Bavuma’s South Africa lost the third game in Vizag by 48 runs. The Proteas were bowled out for 131 when chasing a 180-run total at the ACA-VDCA Stadium, with Harshal Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal claiming 7 wickets between them.
