After a “difficult” couple of losses, Matthew Mott, the head coach of England’s white-ball team, expressed his satisfaction with the way England’s bowlers “kept their nerve” to overcome India in the third T20 international at Trent Bridge.
After dreadful losses at The Ageas Bowl and Edgbaston, England lost the series, but Jos Buttler’s first game as regular captain on Sunday at Trent Bridge saw them score a consolation 17-run triumph.
The three-match one-day international series will begin on Tuesday at The Kia Oval, and the hosts are now excited to have Test skipper Ben Stokes, Joe Root, and Jonny Bairstow back in the lineup.
The players are “thrilled” to be reunited, according to Mott, after England’s spectacular new form of aggressive cricket helped them win four straight Test matches this summer.
It will be much sweeter after a victory, he said to Sky Sports. “We’ll be depending on them to bring the same enthusiasm they had throughout the Test series. They are ecstatic to return to that space. The common refrain in the comments is ”I can’t wait to be back in the colored apparel.”
“That’s wonderful. They had a terrific summer, but they still want to build on it and see this group again. We will be happy to have them back.”
After setting a lofty 216-run target for India in the last T20I at Trent Bridge, England entered the ODI series on a high note. Despite the tourists’ impressive first century from Suryakumar Yadav, the hosts managed to hold on for a consolation win.
Mott remarked, “I was extremely happy with the way our bowlers maintained their composure. “Executing under pressure is precisely what we’ve been discussing a lot, and I felt we held up extremely well today.
Everyone who has played at Trent Bridge is aware of how easily that amount might have been reached. We thought we were doing very well at the midway point, but they were always within reach.
