Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma rise in rankings after fantastic show in Asia Cup

ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings

India opener Smriti Mandhana and off-spinning all-rounder Deepti Sharma each advanced one spot to claim a career-best second place, in the batters and bowlers charts of the most recent ICC women’s T20I player rankings.

After the most recent weekly update, Mandhana and Deepti have both climbed to within striking distance of the top spot for batters and bowlers, respectively.

Mandhana, a top-ranked hitter in ODIs who just became the second Indian to play 100 T20 Internationals for her nation, went up after helping her squad to a recent eight-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final in Sylhet, Bangladesh, with an unbeaten 51 off 25 balls.

With 730 rating points, Mandhana is 13 rating points behind Australia’s Beth Mooney. Who is the no.1 T20 batter at the moment.

Player of the tournament – Deepti Sharma 

It was a magical event for the star all-rounder Deepti Sharma as she took 13-wickets in 8 games she played in the continental event. She won the player of the tournament too.

After taking three for seven against Thailand in a semi-final game of the competition, Deepti was able to rise after allowing only seven runs off four overs in the final match against Sri Lanka.

Deepti has 742 rating points in bowler’s ranking, 14 fewer than England spinner Sophie Ecclestone. She also earned a spot on the all-rounders’ list. Coming in third with 370 rating points. She is now behind New Zealand’s Sophie Devine (390) and Hayley Matthews (377) of the West Indies.

Speedster Renuka Singh has climbed five spots to a career-best third place. She won Player of the Match for her 3/5 performance in the final.

Sneh Rana has climbed five spots to a career-best tenth place.

The dynamic India opener Shafali Verma (7th) and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (14th) have both risen in the most recent update. While left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad has climbed 15 spots to 17th in the bowlers’ list.

India’s Jemimah Rodrigues ended the tournament as the highest run-scorer in the tournament. She recorded 217 runs in 8 games at a strike rate of 54.25. The top-order batter is currently at eight spot in the ICC rankings.

India in Asia Cup 2022

The women in blue after securing the top position in their group met Thailand in the semi-final.

After posting 148 in 20 overs with the bat, the women in blue then restricted the Thailand side to just 74. And claim a 74-run victory and a ticket to final Asia Cup 2022.

They met Sri Lanka in the title game on Sunday, where their bowlers seen dominating from the very start. With Renuka Singh bagged 3 wickets, both Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Sneh Rana grabbed 2-2 each to restrict Sri Lanka to just 65.

Later, Smriti Mandhana didn’t let the Sri Lankan bowlers to create any pressure. And with the help of her blistering knock of 51 off 25 India won their 7th Asia Cup title
