The Indian National Cricket Team has been ranked No. 1 in the annual International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s T20I Team Rankings, which were unveiled on Wednesday, 4 May. After a disappointing showing in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, when India lost games to Pakistan and New Zealand and was eliminated, India has been in incredible form in T20Is under new skipper Rohit Sharma, following the gala event.
Following the release of the official team rankings, the ICC said that the new rankings have an influence on all T20 International series performed since May 2019, with fixtures completed before May 2021 assessed at 50% and subsequent series in the shortest format of cricket weighted at 100%.
“India’s lead over England on the top of the charts has extended to five rating points, from one previously. The new rankings reflect all T20I series completed since May 2019, with those completed prior to May 2021 weighted at 50 percent and subsequent series weighted at 100 percent”, the ICC official statement read.
Virat Kohli has revealed his decision to step down as captain from the shortest form of the game just after the 2021 T20 World Cup, admitting that the reason for his intent is to balance the workload and pressure. In Virat’s last appearance in the global event, he had a tough time as captain as India was eliminated in the group stage.
