Vaughan On Jadeja’s CSK Captaincy
Following CSK’s loss versus the Gujarat Titans (GT), former England skipper Michael Vaughan discussed Ravindra Jadeja’s leadership. Vaughan also said that CSK did not lose far too many matches from a strong position under MS Dhoni’s guidance.
CSK failed to defend 170 versus Gujarat Titans (GT) in the most recent encounter. Despite they began strongly and took 4 early wickets, leaving GT to 48/4 in 8 overs, they had been struggling to keep the consistency further and suffered their sixth consecutive failure of the campaign as GT grabbed the win owing to David Miller’s exploits.
Vaughan said that if Dhoni had been the captain, the match would not have gone until the final over and that he would not have allowed the opposing party an opportunity to come back. Vaughan saw Dhoni’s field-setting tactics throughout the match and had some views to give about the situation.
I think Jadeja would want that from MS Dhoni behind the stumps: Vaughan
“As a new captain, you want to win tight games. Honestly, it wasn’t a tight game and they lost it. They should have easily won that game by 10 or 15 runs and I can only imagine what would happen now. I don’t remember seeing MS Dhoni lose too many games like that. You are never used to seeing MS’ side lose a tight game and wouldn’t have even let it get to be in tight”, Vaughan said.
“You could see then that he was maneuvering himself into the captain’s role, maneuvering fielders, which is fine. I think Ravindra Jadeja would want that from MS Dhoni behind the stumps. But when you’re at your infantry stages as a captain, you want to win the games you were in control of”, he added.
Chris Jordan gave up 25 runs in the 18th over as Rashid hammered him for consecutive boundaries. Dwayne Bravo gave it his all in the next over, but the ball was handed back to Jordan for the final over, since he had to hold 13 runs. As the match dropped out of CSK’s control, Miller decided to take advantage of the opportunity.
Vaughan stated that CSK’s setback should serve as a wake-up call for the new leader, stressing the importance of captains winning such close matches by adjusting field configurations and aiding the bowling unit.
CSK’s upcoming match will be against the Mumbai Indians. The two most successful sides in IPL heritage have struggled to make an impression in this campaign and will be looking forward to get the reputation back on track.
