Will Mumbai Indians Win IPL 2025? – Will MI Win there sixth IPL title?

Mumbai Indians have once again proven why they are one of the most resilient and successful franchises in IPL history. After a dismal start to their IPL 2025 campaign, managing just one win in their first five matches, the five-time champions have stormed back in vintage fashion, winning six consecutive games and climbing to third in the points table.

Currently with 14 points from 11 matches and a league-best net run rate of +1.274, Mumbai look poised to secure a playoff berth with three matches still to go against Gujarat Titans (May 6), Punjab Kings (May 11), and Delhi Capitals (May 15). A couple more wins could even see them finishing in the top two, which offers the cushion of two chances at reaching the final.

History repeats itself?

Slow starts and dramatic comebacks are nothing new for Mumbai Indians. Their 2015 IPL title win came after losing four of their first five matches. Similarly, in 2014 and 2019, MI began poorly before peaking at the right time. Their current resurgence feels eerily similar and could be setting the stage for a sixth IPL title.

Top Performers powering the comeback

Mumbai’s mid-season turnaround has been fueled by key contributions across the board.

Suryakumar Yadav has been the linchpin of the batting unit, consistently anchoring and accelerating when needed. His explosive middle-overs batting has often broken the back of the opposition. Averaging at 67.86 after 11 games, the right-arm explosive batter is currently the highest run-scorer this season.

Ryan Rickelton and Tilak Varma have chipped in with vital cameos, especially during high-pressure chases, while former skipper Rohit Sharma has rediscovered form at the top, providing solid starts.

Jasprit Bumrah, has led the bowling attack with precision and aggression. His death-over mastery has stifled even the most dangerous finishers. Bumrah’s joined MI in their fifth clash this season, and MI won six out of seven games since then. Bumrah being the ever reliable, has bagged 11 wickets in 7 games at an outstanding economy of 6.96.

Trent Boult (16 wickets) and Deepak Chahar (9 wickets) have played effective support roles in the bowling department.

While team’s leader, Hardik Pandya, has been effective with both bat and the ball, as he grabbed thirteen wickets, and also hit 157 runs in seven innings at a strike-rate of 172.53.

Playoff and final impact: The X-Factor

If Mumbai qualifies for the playoffs, with all signs suggest they will, their experience in knockout games will be invaluable. Rohit Sharma’s calm yet quick-fire batting, the core group’s familiarity with high-pressure situations, and their unmatched title pedigree could prove decisive.

Moreover, their net run rate advantage could be a crucial factor in securing a top two finish, granting them the luxury of an extra shot at the final via Qualifier 1.

Can they go all the way?

With the team peaking at the right moment and several players in form, Mumbai Indians are once again in a position to script a fairy-tale finish. While competition remains stiff with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans all in strong positions, the momentum is very much with MI.

If they continue this winning streak and carry their confidence into the playoffs, a sixth IPL title is not just possible, it’s within striking distance.
