Heather Knight will not compete in the 2022 Women’s The Hundred or the Commonwealth Games

England’s skipper Heather Knight will miss the Hundred and the rest of the Commonwealth Games due to a hip ailment.

Knight suffered the injury during the first Twenty20 match of the bilateral series against South Africa on July 21 in Chelmsford, and has missed England’s first two games at the Commonwealth Games.

Knight will continue to receive treatment, according to the England team, who noted on Wednesday that the injury did not heal as expected.

As stated in the Commonwealth Games’ rules, no substitute players may be named

Nat Sciver will continue to captain England because substitute players cannot be picked up for the Commonwealth Games; this leaves the host nation with a 14-person roster for the remaining matches. Knight will remain in Birmingham with the group. She is not in a good situation. She is doing better than she has in the past several days, although she is still experiencing some hip discomfort. To play against New Zealand will probably be a touch too fast. Standing-in skipper Sciver said that she visited our team doctor and underwent another scan.

England has so far won both of its group games without Knight, with Amy Jones at No. 5, 17-year-old Alice Capsey at No. 3, and Sciver at No. 4 all doing admirably.

The outcome of Thursday’s encounter between England and New Zealand, which will be the last group game, will decide who will win Group B. In the Edgbaston semifinals, England is already assured a place.

The second-placed team in Group B will go up against Australia, who defeated Pakistan by 44 runs in their last group game on Wednesday. The Group B champions will square off against the victor of Wednesday night’s game between India and Barbados in the semifinals.
