Happy Birthday Anju Jain: A wicketkeeping genius

Anju Jain was the Indian cricket team’s all-around player. Anju led the Indian women’s cricket team in the early 2000s, held the wickets, started the innings, and occasionally batted in the middle of the order. The wicketkeeper represented India in eight Test matches and 65 One Day Internationals throughout her illustrious cricket career, participating in both and amassing 441 and 1729 runs, respectively. 110 vs. England Women, Kolkata, 1995

During the first Test between India Women and England Women in Kolkata in 1995, Anju Jain wrote history. She played an amazing 110 runs off 278 deliveries while batting in the second innings. The veteran set the mark for the most runs scored in an innings by an Indian woman wicketkeeper with a knock of 110. India was denied the opportunity to bat for the second time, resulting in a tie in the Test match.

Nottingham, 1993: 84* vs. the Women of the West Indies

With a 63-run victory over the West Indies Women, India began their World Cup 1993 campaign. Anju, the wicketkeeper, deserves the most praise for the victory. Anju caught all the attention after scoring 84 runs in her debut ODI game for India. India put up 155 runs on the scoreboard because to Anju’s outstanding at-bats. Anju produced a magnificent knock of 69 runs off 98 deliveries as India scored 176 runs in response. The game concluded in a draw because both sides scored the same number of runs in their 50 overs.
