Gujarat Titans have suffered another blow in IPL 2025 as New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips has been ruled out for the remainder of the tournament due to a groin injury. The incident occurred during GT’s clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 6, when Phillips, who came on as a substitute fielder, attempted a quick throw after stopping a single. Moments later, he was seen clutching his groin and had to limp off the field. Although Phillips never made it to the playing XI, his unavailability further narrowed GT’s overseas options. The franchise confirmed that Phillips has returned to New Zealand for recovery.
Earlier, GT also lost South African speedster Kagiso Rabada, who left the squad on April 3 for personal reasons. With two foreign players now unavailable, the Titans, despite leading the table with four wins in five games, face depth concerns as the season progresses.
Who Can Replace Glenn Phillips
Gujarat Titans have not named a replacement for Phillips yet. However, they still have five overseas players at their disposal. Jos Buttler, Rashid Khan, and Sherfane Rutherford have been regulars in the lineup. Afghanistan’s Karim Janat and South Africa’s Gerald Coetzee are the other two available options. Coetzee is recovering from an earlier injury but could be a valuable addition once fully fit. GT may consider drafting a replacement soon, especially with back-to-back fixtures ahead. The team’s management will need to make a strategic decision to maintain momentum in the tournament.
