Hetmyer ruled out
Shimron Hetmyer, the West Indies star player, is ruled out from the team’s World Cup lineup on Monday. After the star batsman for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) missed his scheduled flight to Australia. Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced Hetmyer’s dismissal from the squad.
Hetmyer has requested that his newly booked trip to Australia be postponed until Saturday, according to a formal statement made by Cricket West Indies on Monday (1 October). The West Indies batsman decided to change the date of his journey to Australia because of family obligations.
Rest of the Squad
Following the conclusion of CPL 2022 on Saturday, October 1, the majority of the West Indies players have begun to arrive in Australia in groups. Hetmyer was unable to play in the opening T20I series match between West Indies and Australia on October 5 at the Gold Coast due to his desire to reschedule his travel.

However, as CWI stated in the press statement. The board decided to move forward with the replacement and alerted ICC about it since it wasn’t willing to jeopardize the team’s capacity to prepare for such a major event.
Difficulty with flight tickets
He further added saying “With flight availability a real challenge. A seat was found for him to leave Guyana today, Monday 3 October. Meaning he would, unfortunately, miss the 1st T20 International (T20I) against Australia on Wednesday 5 October at the Metricon Stadium.
Hetmyer’s answer
This morning, Hetmyer informed the Director of Cricket that he would not be able to get to the airport in time for his flight this afternoon to New York.”
CWI officials warned Hetmyer that “any further delay” in travel would cost him his World Cup spot.
Replacement for Hetmyer
“This afternoon we informed the CWI board of directors that the selection panel had unanimously decided to replace Shimron Hetmyer with Shamarh Brooks in our T20 World Cup squad.”
An official said that they had no other option left. Other than to replace him with another player as the World cup is around the corner. They said, “Whilst we changed Shimron’s flight from Saturday to Monday due to family reasons. It was made clear to him that if there were any further delays and issues. His travel to Australia then we would have no choice but to replace him in the squad. As we are not prepared to compromise the team’s ability to prepare for this extremely important global event.”
Brooks arrival
Although Brooks will depart later this week, he won’t take part in the two-match T20I series against Australia. As opposed to that, he will join the World Cup squad in Melbourne. Where Nicholas Pooran’s team will begin their campaign in the qualifying round. With the top two teams moving on to the Super 12, West Indies is grouped with Ireland, Scotland, and Zimbabwe in Group B.
