Cricket West Indies Announces New Domestic Red-Ball Competition

New Red-Ball Domestic League; Headley-Weekes series

The Headley-Weekes series, a new domestic red-ball tri-series from the Cricket West Indies, will be contested towards the conclusion of the four-day West Indies Championship.

Three games and three teams will be included in the new Headley Weekes Series. Players outside of the opening West Indies Test XI and the top scorers in the 2023 West Indies Championship will be chosen for Teams Headley and Weekes. The third team in the new Series will be supplied by the new West Indies Academy.

West Indies Championship before Headley-Weekes series

Prior to that, the West Indies Championship 2023 will be held over five rounds of four-day red ball cricket and include the six regional franchise teams, including the defending champion Barbados Pride, Leeward Islands Hurricanes, Trinidad & Tobago Red Force, Guyana Harpy Eagles, Jamaica Scorpions, and Windward Islands Volcanoes.

West Indies Championship 2023

In February of 2023, the West Indies Championship will begin. From February 1 to February 11, the first two rounds will be held in Grenada at the National Stadium and in Antigua at the CCG and the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium (SVRS).

After a break, the competition will restart on March 15 and run until April 1 for the final three rounds, following which the winners will be announced and given the Headley Weekes Trophy. These games will be held in Trinidad at the Diego Martin Sports Complex, Queens Park Oval, and Brian Lara Cricket Academy (BLCA) (DMSC).

In order to continue ensuring that the upcoming generation of players is being trained along the pathway to international cricket, Johnny Grave, CEO of Cricket West Indies, said, “It will also give some strong competitive red-ball cricket for our new West Indies Academy Players.

Headley Weekes Tri-Series Schedule

  • 19 to 22 April: West Indies Academy vs Team Headley
  • 26 to 29 April: West Indies Academy vs Team Weekes
  • 3 to 6 May: Team Headley vs Team Weekes
