Cheteshwar Pujara Hits Century In First Game As Sussex Captain

Cheteshwar Pujara Hits Century: The dependable Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara continued his fine run in England by posting yet another century during a County Cricket match in England.

Pujara was named the interim captain of the Sussex side after their regular captain Tom Harris was ruled out due to an injury.

This marked Pujara’s fifth century in the last 7 county games, but this ton will remain the special one as Pujara has recorded this century in his first game as Sussex Captain.

The Pujara Show

After choosing to bat first, the skipper, Cheteshwar Pujara came out to bat when Sussex lost their second wicket at the score of 99. And then he did what he does the best, scoring runs for his side to help build a massive total.

He did the 219-run partnership with Tom Alsop before the latter walked back into the pavilion after playing a blistering knock of 135.

By the time of stumps on day 1, Sussex was at 328 for 4 with skipper Cheteshwar Pujara (115*) and wicket-keeper Oliver Carter (5*) will resume the innings for Sussex on day 2.

Tom Helm was the pick of the bowlers for the Middlesex side as he took 3 wickets out of 4 for his team.

Umesh Yadav in Middlesex’s playing XI

Indian pacer Umesh Yadav was also seen playing for the Middlesex and he bowled 18 overs on day 1 but remained wicketless after giving 42 runs.

Pujara, was been out of touch for some time last year and as a result, he was dropped from the side after the South Africa tour earlier this year, but his brilliant run at the County Cricket for the last couple of months helped him to regain the Indian team spot as he was part of India versus England one-off test.

In the 5th and final test of the 2021 India versus England series, Pujara was given the responsibility to open the innings alongside Shubman Gill for India as both regular openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul were not part of the team as Rohit tested COVID positive for some days before the game, while Rahul suffered a groin injury.
