Following two seasons that were severely disrupted by COVID restrictions, the Big Bash League has finally unveiled the calendar for the 12th edition of the competition, which will resume its “traditional” mid-December start date and include a full seven-match home schedule for each of the eight clubs.
The finale of the 12th season of the Big Bash League is slated for February 4, 2023, with the season’s opening day falling on December 13, 2022. The group stage will include a total of 56 matches, which will be held at various venues around the nation. Fans will be able to catch up on what they missed during the Covid-hit time. The competition will be eagerly awaited as T20 luminaries from all zones compete to win the prized cup.
On December 13 at the Manuka Oval, Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Stars will play their opening match of this season. In the last two years, the Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers have advanced to the championship game. In the 10th edition, Sixers defeated Scorchers to win the championship, while the season before, Perth won the cup by defeating Sixers.
The Adelaide Strikers will host the Sydney Sixers the next day in a rematch of the thrilling Challenger final from the previous season, so cricket fans in Adelaide won’t have to wait long for their next home game.
The Perth Scorchers will play their season opener at Optus Stadium on Saturday, December 17, and it will be their first home game in 374 days, so the Sixers won’t have to wait long to get revenge for their BBL 11 final’s loss.
This summer, Big Bash cricket will be featured at 17 sites around the nation, including three new ones. The Thunder, Heat, and Sixers will play their home games at North Sydney Oval, Lavington Sports Ground in Albury, and Cazalys Stadium in Cairns, respectively.
Along with the eight regular home venues, BBL games will once again be played at Coffs Harbour, Geelong, Metricon Stadium, Manuka Oval, University of Tasmania Stadium in Launceston, and Junction Oval.
The first leg of the Melbourne derby will take place at the MCG on January 3, while the second leg will take place at Marvel Stadium on January 14. The Sydney derby will take place at Sydney Showground Stadium on January 8 and January 21.
