IPL 2022: Will this IPL be a batting feast?

Not more than a month is left for Tata Indian Premier League to start its celebration. After being hosted away from the country due to the pandemic, the league is finally set to be played in the homeland and the chatter is loud. The mega auction started with a bang and we saw records being broken. The franchises made bids to form a balanced side of young and experienced talents, promising a great IPL 2022 season ahead. In this article, we have discussed Best Batters in IPL 2022 Will this IPL be a batting feast?

The IPL schedule and venue are out and with the change in format, we notice that, unlike the earlier seasons, the league matches will be played in one state only: Maharashtra with Wankhede and DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai hosting the most number of matches. Given that high team scores and big run chases are USPs of the ground, we may see runs raining for the batters this season. For the past few years, the average score at the Wankhede pitch for 1st and 2nd  innings has been 194 and 182 and is a promising entertainer for T20s.

Along with batting-friendly pitches, the current form of Indian batters in the domestic season is going to be a big factor in making this IPL a batting feast. The likes of Shahrukh Khan who made 194 in 148 balls, Yash Dhull who has hit back-to-back centuries for Delhi, and Manish Pandey proving why he is a great investment with blazing 157 for Karnataka have shown a hunger for runs. The exposure of players to quality bowling and backing from franchises has resulted in promising performances. On the National side, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, and Venkatesh Iyer have solidified their places and upped the expectation, assuring the viewers of an eventful IPL.

The IPL mega auction saw big bets being made on all-rounder players be it home or international. Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur saw an enormous increase in their fees following their fiery contribution with the bat. Going with the same reputation, West Indies’ majority players were sold for a record number for their muscle power and dynamic batting styles. The consistent Aussie, Brits, and Proteas players have also garnered decent bets for their palpable batting records. The franchises did not shy away from placing their bets on uncapped players who have reputations of being hard-hitters of the ball such as Devald Brevis, Tim David, or Rahul Tewatia for huge sums of money and it will be a delight to watch these batters playing with legends.

With the technological advancement and its incorporation in DRS and how the approach of playing the game of cricket is changing, it won’t be wrong to say a lot is going on for batters and franchises and viewers have shown their faith in them. It will be interesting to watch how the change in format and reliance on big hitters turns out for the teams and how delightful this 2022 batting feast will be.
