The newly elected England Test skipper, Ben Stokes, is going on a film exploration tour very soon. A documentary proposal moved by his ‘fan’ – Sam Mendes – will feature the life of a star English cricketer as its core subject.
Mendes, an Oscar award winner in Hollywood, will direct the documentary on the highs and lows of Stokes’s cricketing career. According to a news report by France 24, the documentary will be produced on Amazon Prime Video.
The documentary is being produced with the title “Ben Stokes: Phoenix from the Ashes”. The 30-year-old would probably not appear in the documentary but will give his voice, explaining to the audience about his personal and cricketing lives.
Stokes, France 24 quoted as saying, the aim of the documentary was to show another side to his character. “One thing I want to try and do with this is to get a side across to people that is quite tough to do in the image that we give across on TV,” he said.
The website also mentioned on Stokes saying about difference in his approach while dealing with the media and shooting a documentary. “Certain aspects in the media you have to do in a certain way, to come across in a certain way, to please a certain amount of people whereas for this I don’t feel like I’m having to do that.”
Mendes shared his views saying that he was a great fan of Stokes. “I was always a fan of Ben as a cricketer — how can you not be, if you are a lover of sport at the highest level? But now my admiration extends well beyond the boundaries of cricket,” the website quoted Mendes as saying.
A video of 2.44 seconds was shared by the makers on the official Twitter handle of Amazon Prime Video Sport on Thursday. It highlighted the southpaw’s cricketing journey which includes early days of his struggle to enter the cricket.
“The dizzying highs, the crushing lows. England’s talismanic Test captain as you have never seen him before. Ben Stokes: Phoenix from the Ashes, coming to Prime Video later this year,” Amazon Prime Video Sport said.
