After a long-wait for the already adopted international technology in Cricket, Big Bash now finally have a DRS for both men’s and women’s tournament for the next season.
It will be the first time since inception of the League, the players in the tournament will be able to use the technology from the next season 2022-23.
BBL wanted to adopt this technology since long and they made a plan to introduce it in last season but the last season was called off to COVID-19 pandemic.
The technology will used in all the men’s fixtures. While it will be used only in 24 games out 59 in the WBBL (Women’s Big Bash League).
The reason behind it is that the official broadcaster Channel Seven will only broadcast 24 matches of the WBBL. And the remaining games will be streamed online and that matches will not have the DRS technology and will take place without the DRS.
What Alistair Dobson said about the DRS technology?
“The league is delighted to introduce DRS … in line with the very best cricket competitions in the world,” said Alistair Dobson, the general manager of Big Bash.
“Implementing DRS has been a challenging task for the BBL. Which is the most logistically complex T20 league in the world. That, plus the impact of the pandemic on travel and movement, have meant the technology has not been possible to introduce until this season.”
While stating about the impact of power surge in WBBL and the BBL. The General Manager also opened on the removal of Big-boost and X-factor.
“Additionally, the league is pleased with the outcomes of the wider Playing Conditions review process. With the introduction of the Power Surge to WBBL and the BBL innings clock both major wins for fans.”
“We retain a clear desire to innovate and drive our leagues forward. But are also willing to review decisions that have not realised the intended positive impact. Such as the Bash Boost point and X-Factor substitution.”
Other developments from next season of Big Bash League
Another developments that the fans can witness from next seasons is the power surge in WBBL. This is the first time that power surge is introduced in the competition, with the powerplay of 6 overs to be reduced to 4. While the other to be considered as two-surge.
The batting can opt for the surge during the last ten overs of the innings. Only two fielders will be allowed outside the circle in those two overs.
The power-surge instantly became hit when introduced in recent season. And the introduction of this concept in WBBL will add more thrill to the games.
While the already adapted Bash Boost and X-Factor innovations will not be used from the next seasons as it was not gained much popularity and the Cricket Australia (CA) decided to remove it.
