WBBL 2022: Amy Satterthwaite joins Adelaide Strikers as Assistant Coach

WBBL 2022: Former New Zealand captain Amy Satterthwaite has been appointed as the new assistant coach of the Adelaide Strikers for the upcoming Women’s Big Bash League Season.

Amy Satterthwaite, who took retirement from her international career some months back, has been chosen for the coaching role for the first time since retirement.

“The WBBL is such a quality competition, and one that I have been fortunate to play in over the years,” she said in a statement.

“I absolutely loved my time on the field playing with and against some of the best in the world, and I know the standard of the local talent is extremely high.

“I have always had great respect for the Adelaide Strikers; they have always been a competitive franchise and the squad looks strong again this season after a brilliant performance last year.

“Hopefully I can bring a fresh perspective to the coaching group and lean on my experience to help the team go that next step this summer.”

With 145 appearances, 4639 runs scored, and 50 wickets taken in the 50-over format, retired as the most experienced women’s ODI player for New Zealand. She has 111 international matches of experience in the shortest T20I format, during which she scored 1784 runs and picked 26 wickets.

Previously serving as a mentor at Canterbury in her own country, Satterthwaite will work under head coach Luke Williams, who stated: “She has a great cricket mind, knows this competition better than most and will really be able to connect with our players both on and off the field. We can’t wait to welcome her to Adelaide.”

The 2022 Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL 2022) comprises of 56 games, will be played from October 13 to November 20, with Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers will lock horns in the tournament opener.

Adelaide Strikers will start their campaign on October 15 against Sydney Sixers.
