SL Vs PAK 2nd test, 4th innings:
Chasing a mammoth target of over 500 runs is never an easy task for any big all around the world. The highest run chased in the 4th innings of a test match was recorded by West Indies against Australia in 2003, when they achieved the huge target of 418.
But, with positive intent in mind Pakistan batters came on field and looking good in the chase after crossing the 175 mark with the loss of only 2 wickets, but as soon as Mohammed Rizwan (37) walked back to the pavilion, the visitors lost their 4 more wickets in the span of just 29 runs, including skipper Babar Azam.
The tail-enders showed some fighting spirit to add some runs on board but that wasn’t enough to help Pakistan reach the huge 508 mark, as they lost the game by 246 runs.
Babar Azam scored the highest runs amongst the Pakistan’s batters with 81. Apart from him, Imam-ul-Haq played a knock of 49, while Rizwan scored 37.
Prabath Jayasuriya took 5 wickets, while Ramesh Mendis grabbed 4 to restrict Pakistan to just 261 to help their side level the series.
It was a dream come true series for the new comer Prabath Jayasuriya as after taking 8 wickets in first game, he took 9 in the second, including 2 fifers.
His impressive bowling spells in both the games helped him win his maiden Player of the series award in international circuit.
While Dhananjaya de Silva, the lone centurion in the whole four innings won the player of the match award. It was his century that guided the hosts to 360 to set a monstrous target in front of Pakistan.
