Rohit Sharma Surpasses Martin Guptill to Register Big T20I Record

Rohit Sharma surpasses Martin Guptill

Big T20I Record: India skipper Rohit Sharma’s heroics during the second T20I on Friday drove his side home with six wickets in hand to level the series.

It was a rain-shortened 8-over per side match, where Rohit while chasing showed his class and smashed an unbeaten 46 off 20. His blistering knock included four fours and four maximums that were enough to entertain the spectators. To hand India a much-needed victory.

During his outstanding knock, the Indian skipper also created a record as he surpassed New Zealand opener, Martin Guptill, as the most six-hitter in T20Is.

Before the start of India versus Australia’s second T20I, both Rohit and Guptill were at the same spot with 172 sixes. But as soon as the 35-year-old smashed his second ball out of the park he crossed the hard-hitting Guptill.

During the chase, Rohit hit four sixes that provided him an advantage. He now has a total of 176 in the shortest format of the game. While Guptill with 172 sixes is at second spot. Chris Gayle with 124 is at third, followed by England’s world cup winner skipper Eoin Morgan with 120 sixes at fourth (he took retirement in June this year). The current Australian captain Aaron Finch with 119 sixes at fifth position on the list.

Rohit has so far recorded 3,677 runs in 138 matches in the game’s shortest format.

IND vs AUS 2nd T20I

Coming to match, the eight-over per side game saw many ups and downs in both innings as both teams loses many wickets in the run making process.

Australia after being invited to bat faced a little dreary situation. When they lost their power-hitters Cameron Green, Glenn Maxwell and Tim David early. The skipper then somehow managed to soak the pressure before Bumrah bowled him with his Yorker.

Matthew Wade then took the centre stage and played a sensational unbeaten knock of 43 off 20 to guide his side to 90 for five in 8 overs.

In reply, India started the chasing campaign with a bang. As the skipper Rohit Sharma was in different mood all-together, smashing boundaries with so ease.

However, the other players didn’t managed to stay long at crease at both KL Rahul and Virat Kohli gone after scoring 10 and 11, respectively. While Suryakumar walked back without even scoring a single run and Hardik too got out early. But as Rohit was in no mood to throw away the game. He managed the equation to 9 to win off the final 6. Then the finisher Dinesh Karthik struck a six and four. To help India level the series with 4 balls to spare.
