Punjabi power against Broad – first Yuvraj, now Bumrah smashes 30-plus off Broad’s over

Bumrah smashes 30-plus off Broad’s over

It’s almost 15 years since the six sixes incident occurred, but that evening in Durban still haunts the now veteran Stuart Broad.

And now in 2022, when Broad on the verge on gaining one of best bowlers in test cricket label, he faced another such incident that too in the longest format of the game.

However, it was not 6-sixes in an over, but it was nothing less than that.

The stand-by captain of India Jasprit Bumrah, who came in to bat at no. 10 in the ongoing India versus England test match, smashed 35 runs in Broad’s over to stun the whole universe.

On Saturday, When Broad provided England a breakthrough by dismissing Mohammed Shami, Bumrah walked in to bat.

Although, the centurion Ravindra Jadeja was on the crease at that time and kept the strike on most of the balls, but soon he got out while trying to hit a big shot.

Then Bumrah took whole responsibility on his shoulders and was behind Broad in the 84th over, in which he struck 4 fours and 2 maximums to collect 35 runs off the over.

What happened with Broad before this incident?

Earlier, on September 18, 2007, during the India versus England match in the inaugural T-20 match, Yuvraj Singh disturbed the speedster by smashing him for six consecutive sixes.

In a do or die game, India were 155 for 3 in 16.4 overs, with both MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh trying their best to add as many runs as possible.

During the 18th over of the game, Yuvraj had a bit argue with Englishman Andrew Flintoff, and what followed next was unimaginable to anyone.

In the 19th over, while facing Broad, Yuvraj Singh hit six consecutive sixes, which not only helped him calm down from his rage but also helped India pass the 200-mark.

The wrecker-in-chief in that match, Yuvraj Singh recorded fastest half-century in the T20I in just 12 balls, which is still a record even after 15 years.

India defeated England by 18 runs in the match and later outlasted South Africa in the league stage, while they overcame the mighty Australia in the semis and beat Pakistan in the final to win the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup 2007.

An unwanted record in the career book of Broad

Stuart Broad first gave 36 runs in the shortest format of the game to top the list of conceding most runs in an over in T20Is. And now he has his name in the list of bowler who has given the maximum run in the longest format of the game as well.

IND Vs ENG 1st Test Summary:
